History of Mongolia - The union between religion and state in Mongolia

A very important part of the history of Mongolia is converting to Buddhism Altan Khan in 1578. From 1639 until 1924, the living Buddha (Gegen Bogdo) and its reincarnations sit in Urga (now Ulan Bator). An alliance between the Buddhist clergy and the aristocracy Mongolian govern the country until 1691 of the 20th century, the Manchu Qing dynasty sees a dim view of this consolidation.
