History of Mongolia - The 1980s: Reforms and the advent of democracy in Mongolia

During the 80s, the Soviet regime loses its strength throughout the region and Tsedenbal, then the head of the Mongolian summer, is bound to leave for Moscow in 1984. It will be replaced by Jambyn Batmönkhe, a reformer in 1986. Mikhaël Gorbachev decided the withdrawal of Soviet troops throughout the region. Batmönkhe then instituted perestroika in the form of economic and social reforms. Closing the Kholkozes, freedoms enterprises, decentralization of power Mongolian, return of private investment, retirement of senior military officers, some reforms were arriving.

Another feature of this
period is the restoration of relations between China and Mongolia. It was in 1989 that the air link between Beijing and Ulan Bator was restored.
