The monastery Manzushir

Manzushir The monastery is located in the valley of the mountain region of Bogd Khan, 50 km from Ulan Bator and 7 km northeast of the city of Zuunmod, administrative center of Tov. The monastery was built in 1733 after a major religious ceremony held in the valley in connection with the cult of Manzshir, the God of Wisdom. The monastery has 21 beautiful temples such as Tsogchin, Ovgon Dugan, Arvan Khangai, Maidar and Badami-Yogo, which were built on the slope of the hill in the north.

Formerly it was an important Buddhist center, the monastery housed more than 300 monks. Some photos taken
by German travelers in 1921 are currently displayed in the temple restored. Like many monasteries in Mongolia, Manzushir was largely destroyed in 1932 during communist purges. The region is still considered sacred, and visitors are asked to refrain from cutting plants or kill any living thing (even insects). Bogd Khaan mountain is one of the first officially protected areas in the world. The monastery is located approximately 1 hour drive from the capital of Mongolia.
